Ponce Inlet , FL isseeking a strategic and innovative manager to lead this idyllic waterfrontcommunity. Ponce Inlet is located on the southern tip of a barrier island onFlorida’s east coast, south of Daytona Beach. With both oceanfront andintracoastal waterway frontage, the town enjoys the best of Florida living. Theresident population of 3,430 is supplemented by both intermittent and seasonalvisitors.
Ponce Inlet isincorporated as a Council / Manager form of government. The Town Manager isappointed by and answers to a five member Town Council. Public services includepolice, fire, medical transport, public works, planning and development, andcultural services. In addition to service operations, the Town Manager overseesall supporting administrative functions for finance, information technology andhuman resources. Sixty full-time employees are supplemented by an active bodyof community volunteers.
The Town of Ponce Inlet staff shall beprofessional, caring, and fair in delivering community excellence whileensuring citizens obtain the greatest value for their tax dollar. The successful candidate must reflect this philosophy and be aleader who brings integrity, strategic focus, and vision to public service. TheTown Manager serves as an advocate for local interests and represents the townin a wide range of forums. The provision and advancement of town servicesinvolves cooperative relationships with other governments and agencies. TheTown Manager must possess excellent communication skills and have a record ofsuccess in developing and negotiating collaborative relationships. Experiencewith the development and implementation of performance standards for both staffand programs is a priority. Successful pursuit of grants and the ability toleverage resources is highly desirable.
The Town Manager’sroutine duties are complex and varied, requiring the ability to anticipateinterests, needs and issues. The Manager will develop and execute plans for thegoals articulated by the Town Council. Effective communications with theCouncil members, staff, outside agencies and the public are essential. PonceInlet residents are highly involved in community life and have high standardsfor the town’s quality of life. The towngrowth rate over that last 20 years reflects its desirability to both residentsand visitors. Town government strives to balance the demands of growth with thecommunity interests in retention of a small-town lifestyle. In addition, thephysical environment is presenting new challenges to address coastal resiliencyand the impacts of sea level rise.
Education and Experience
The successfulcandidate will have:
· Extensiveknowledge of municipal government administration to include experience withgovernment budgeting, personnel management, service operations, programdevelopment and regulatory requirements.
· Stronganalytical and communication skills are required to interface effectively withelected officials, staff, collaborating partners and citizens.
· Minimumof eight (8) years government experience in a managerial capacity withdemonstrated success in administration of budgets and resources, staffdevelopment, process implementation, program evaluation, and policy development.
· Bachelor’sdegree from an accredited college or university is required. A Master’s Degreeis preferred.
Compensation: Current compensation for this positionis $150k per year plus benefit package. Actual salary will be determined basedon the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.
