POSITIONDESCRIPTION Community Relations Specialist Job Posting Link: Job Detail (opelika-al.gov) This position is FLSAexempt (full-time). The Community Relations Specialist works with the CommunityRelations Officer and makes decisions within a designated scope of publicinformation, establishes and maintains effective public relations with mediarepresentatives and the public, and provides other professional staff withadministrative support. Work involves management of social media, website,digital marketing, and videos. The incumbent works with local businesses, community,and neighborhood groups. Work is performed under the general supervision of theCommunity Relations Officer, and is reviewed for adequacy, accuracy, andadherence to departmental polices and standards. · Applicantsare required to submit to a background check as a condition of employment. - Creates social media plan for city that sets goals, objectives, and activities for the year.
- Develops monthly content calendars for social media platforms. Writes content for all social media accounts.
- Monitors and responds to social media/online reputation.
- Manages analytics and testing of content on all social media accounts.
- Provides regular reports on website analytics and social media analytics to CR Director and Administration.
- Develops and maintains graphics, photos and videos for social media and website.
- Responsible for photography at city events and for yearly branding photo shoots.
- Responsible for creation of city videos – scripts, logistics, scheduling, video editing pre- and post- production.
- Responsible for city website maintenance and updates. Develops and implements fresh content to provide extensive exposure of the website and Connect Opelika.
- Writes and edits content for branded collateral (i.e., Brochures, banners, advertisements)
- Performs research and market analysis activities and website analytics as directed.
- Builds and maintains a media list and database.
- Represents the Community Relations Department and the City at meetings to obtain or provide information relating to department plans, programs, procedures, and operations.
- Communicates and exchanges information with the public via press releases and media articles for the City of Opelika to promote interest and involvement in the community.
- Acts as designated Chairperson on the City’s United Way Internal Campaign.
- Originates, plans, composes, and distributes news items, media articles, stories, bulletins, speeches, reports, and letters for staff, department, and the city as directed.
- Communicates with and builds relationships with City departments and department heads.
- Coordinates with various city departments in planning and organizing city-wide both indoor and outdoor special events/programs as directed.
- Contacts media representatives and arranges for exposure or explains activities (i.e., Press conferences, events, award ceremonies, etc.); responds to questions directed to the city departments.
- Communicates with and responds to inquiries from City Employees, media, businesses, and the public regarding City activities.
- Serves as Assistant Public Information Officer for the City of Opelika in event of a major disaster.
- The person in this position must possess normal or corrected visual acuity and color perception.
- Operates a motor vehicle independently to transport self and supplies to and from city events and meetings; and may experience exposure to vehicular traffic.
- Other duties as assigned.
